Alchemy Works

Alchemy Works

Stepping into Alchemy Works feels like a mashup of a museum and a really well-decorated beachside cabin. I’m not talking about the kind of home where there’s motifs of Americana lighthouses everywhere — I’m talking about that weathered wood, saltwater-soaked type of home where you have things found from the ocean displayed everywhere. The entire east wall of the store has shelves filled with found items — preserved coral, antiquated bottles — alongside Alchemy’s adventure-ready goods for sale.

You can find wallets and accessories that are made so well that they’ll probably outlive you. You can find a real Warhol (Liz Taylor, above). There's also good reads to inspire your next adventure – I recommend Monster Children. But for sure my favorite aspect of the store, and what I find so beautifully museum-esque about it, is its series of massive photographs along its west wall. Dwell in front of these huge portraits of the ocean for a moment. They'll feel expansive; they are an immersive experience.
