A Day in is about hosting beautiful experiences in beautiful places with nature as the backdrop and artist programming and curated cuisine to match each location. Our lives are surrounded by beauty, but yet we spend so much time in cities, connected to devices, plugged in, gazing at screens and not at the stars. A Day in offers respite from a busy life and an alternative to the typical live music event and festival experiences that you may be accustomed to. Every event's capacity is limited in number, designed to be cozy so guests can feel a sense of community rather than feel like part of a giant crowd. Everything and everyone is always laid back and the production is done in a way that you feel like you're at an intimate private party versus a live music gig or festival. Ticket prices are generally all inclusive, so you just show up and everything else is taken care of for you.
2015's first event took place just 45 minutes up the PCH from Venice Beach in Topanga Canyon. Guests could opt-in to a morning program which started at 10:30am with yoga, hiking, and breakfast at Red Rock Canyon Park with yogi Tabitha Rose. The main event kicked off at 1pm down the road at a private home nestled in a woodsy oasis. The live music line up was curated around guitar virtuoso Marisa Anderson from Portland. Her style, which swings from blues to psychedelic to Americana, takes the listener on a romping meditative journey. She played the sunset set just before dinner, but we could have honestly listened to her play all day. Findlay Brown channeled 60's psychedelia with his 3-piece band and closed the night out under a canopy just as the rain started to fall.
As for the dining experience, vegetarian Chef Anne Lee of Castle Gourmet created an amazing rustic and fun menu. Snacks included a make your own popcorn bar and homemade bar snacks. Dinner was a hearty seasonal menu of Tuscan white bean and kale stew, Moroccan spiced red pepper and root vegetable stew, a Winter vegetable salad and a spread of fresh baked rustic breads. Verve Coffee Roasters set up a mini coffee school in the small house on the property for guests to be taken through a coffee tasting of South American and African coffees. Philosophie Super Food created a super healthy welcome shot and some amazing chocolate balls which guests enjoyed for dessert. L.A. Brewing company Golden Roa d and Pabst provided the booze. Aqua Hydrate and Caliwater Cactus Water kept everyone hydrated. The A Day in crew provided glugs of their special homemade infused tequilas which went quickly. And for that extra touch of true relaxation, Foria gave complimentary massages on a beautiful deck overlooking the forest.
